Hey guys. Wanting to put a short shifter into my EF XR6. Does anyone know a brand/model that would fit directly into the standard gearbox used in the EF XR6s? Any help would be great. After some knowledge in this area. Cheers.

while your saving up for the billet shifter, you could do what i did....
The shift feels heaps better after removing approx 35mm from the handle |

why is it bad?
by reducing the length of the handle, you reduce the distance travelled needed to change into the next gear. I know the original shifter handle in mine felt like it was 10 feet tall, but now feels effortless to change gears. Cant see a bad side to it, unless its a bad weld? |

mine was $325 with positive stops, as i got it in a group buy.
ive installed two, one way was easy one took ages. way 1. -drop the gearbox crossmember and lower the box enough to fiddle with the bolts between the box and floorpan of the car, and squeeze new shifter in there. (like and hour, needed stands, trolly jack and HEAPS of swearing) way 2. (easy way) -drill two holes in the trans tunnel from inside the car above the forward two bolts, undo the old shifter, slide the new one in its place (10>15mins, nice easy) i agree the handel was tall, but fit a very short gear knob and its fine. |

i went for option two drilling 2 holes for the the 14mm socket. altho i do have a hydraulic jack and ramps but the jack is needed to lower the box and i will not trust ramps or stands.
with option one you realy need a hoist (to do it safely) and even then the angle of the box is limited after you remove the gearbox and exhaust mounts, otherwise it only costs about $60 to get it done by a mechanic. Billet is the go tho imo, its a HUGE improvement over the standard shifter. gear selection is always short, tight and accurate. i reckon it must be just as quick (or quicker) than an auto now without even thinking about it, i usually have it in the next gear before the rpm even drops and no problem using the standard gear stick as it seems to be the right height for my arm resting on the console lid. i have a shorter aftermarket gear knob too so it probably helps im not sure when the next group buy will be but if you pm Bomber he is happy to answer any questions you might have.

thanks for the help guys.
i'm definatelly going to get a billet short shift for my EF. it'd look and feel a lot nicer. as for installing it.. i might leave it to my mechanic. i don't want to either screw the gear box.. or have a car fall on me. haha. thanks again guys! much appreciated!
