hey just picked up a ef xr6 diff to go into my el, do i need to use the ef upper and lower control arms? also there is wires coming from the front side of the brakes on both sides and they run down the lower control arm, is this abs? thanks

The upper control arms are the ones that changed between EF and EL. I am not sure but from what I recall, if it is an XR diff then it is this geometry that the EL suspension was based on. It may well be that the EL uppers fit anyway. The cables referred to are the ABS.

It will fit.The wires that come off the back of the disc area is for the abs sensors.I fitted a EL XR diff to a EF Falcon the other day at work straight bolt up.You might also wont to check your speedo once you replace your diff with an XR one, being different ratio's will put your speedo out.

so with the upper control arms do i need to use the mounting brakets off the ef or only the arms, the brakets on the ef one seem to have 2 bolts holding it on and the el only has 1 i assume the arms will fit into the el brakets

You'll need the upper control arms, park brake cables are different.

EF arms will fit into the EL mounts, but they are an inch longer. tailshaft will be pointing towards the cabin.

They are around or less than $10 from Fraud. There is a wheel size calc somewhere on here that you can work out which color one you need.

ok well im halfway through doing this now and have some problems.. it seems that the upper control arms dont fit into the brackets, the EL's brakets are parallel with the car and the ef's control arms are at a bit of an angle. so, i'm assuming i use the ef's brackets, the problem is i dont know which side they go on.. depending on which side i put it on it can either move the arm up or down.. it looks more likely that it should be down, it all seems to line up better that way but then i realised you cant get the bolt that holds the arm in so i'll have to put the brackets on the arm first then put the diff in! does this sound right am i on the right track? thanks

From memory the upper control arms are the same offsets and angles the only difference is the overall length. The mounting points should be square with the car not angled. The diff needs to be parrallel to the car othewise it might be difficult to get the bolts in.

You might need to get some EF non XR upper control arms then.

This is an EF upper I had in the shed.
To the eye the pivot axis on the front and rear is parallel, in other words they are square to the body.
