hey guys just wondering how hard it is to replace a seal in my diff now its not the most healthy diff in the world but needs attention as its all over the joint (single spinner) would it be just as cheap and easy to put in a LSD dif or wats the best solution?

also with my 5Sp it tends to have a quick grind wen i change into 3rd and 4th gear but never does it wen i go down gears only wen changing up gets better wen warm but still does it, it also throws itself out of gear at times like just taking off in 1st or second any help much appreciated

i was thinking of just buying a wreck XR6 ef-el just to pull these parts out of it & grab extra's like the XR6 head

thanks in advance

wen i got the ford i was told it did alot of towing also which was confirmed by a hayman reese towbar kit

could the towing have worn these out?

Not sure on the towing but the grinding between gears is syncos, not sure what causes it to pop out of gear but it generaly means the box is worn. If you can live with it drive it, it cant get much worse, its either a rebuild job or swap it out for another box.

have you changed the fluid in it lately or ever? it helps a bit. I have an EA t5 in my ef, its about 20 years old and has done lots of towing etc, has done about 400,000km so far and is pretty good. the pedal box however is another story.

must have had a fuggin hard life :o(
I'd change the box fluid, as if its never been done it might help with the changes. Especially if it gets better as the box warms up. (Dextron 3 is what these boxes use too)
Add some sort of conditioner to the oil too see if that helps/

I've had my car for about 100,000km and the owner before me was the cousin who, lets just say doesn't treat his cars all that well. and the diff is just starting to get a bearing noise now. Mind you when they go underwater/into muddy water the sand etc cant do much good to the car can it :S

Krytox: Conventional Oil Dexron3 with 150ml Lubrizol additive. (yes ATF fluid)

Good: Penrite extra light gear oil + lubrizol

Better: Castrol Tranzmax-Z

Best : apparently: Redline Rock crusher.

Also check your clutch cable, mine sits firm up against the extractors and i need to pull it out every now and then, if i don't all gears end up crunching.

How much is a T5 rebuild these days?
