As far as I am aware, only the early series one EFs had the dipstick. As for fitting it, well... good luck!

The hole to put a dip stick is non-existent. The last one to have a dip stick is the 2/96 EF.

You will have to remove the Valvebody to be able to get to the case so it is a bit of labour and time involved.

I did hear it was to cut cost, later i heard it was to prevent owners putting the wrong tranny fluid in there. So take your pick.

There was 2 theorys why the dip stick was removed; the first being to save money and the second was; because the fluid in these transmissions changes colour or overheats so quickly and starts to smell a bit, new car owners were bringing theirs cars back under warranty to the dealers thinking that their transmission was faulty so to stop this the dipstick was removed. I suppose they worked on the theory "What you can't see wont hurt you. :D
why did they remove it ?
Some people overfill their boxes. Ford service reckon to much oil wasnt any good for the box, so with the filler hole you can only fill to that level. load of s**t I reckon. But could be a combination of all.
