ok, did this job today
self induced leak really pump was dripping. had another pump and swapped them over but disturbed the hose which then leaked down behind the alternator (not on it) and onto the K frame. the pump leak is the one which drips into the alternator Was considering Pirtek or Enzed, call Ford...in the end found falconparts.com.au overnight to my door for $52.50 (QLD) 1st image is the genuine hose (non servicable) 2nd image is the new hose (servicable) job done, not much f.....g about

yeah i'm pretty sure it's the high pressure hose as i rubbed my finger under it and had a drop, not a smear, a drop of oil on my finger.
gonna replace it, although distributor is now my number one priority. for today anyway.

Best to empty it and put in new fluid. Fastest way, but messy way if you're on your own, is to unplug the return line, get a glass jar (at least 500mL) and pump the whole fluid into the jar. Let the jar settle and see if there are any foreign objects in there. If there are one of the lines might be dying/breaking down putting crap into the pump system (even though the pump has a filter, at some point will block). Best to do it with another person...so one person starts the car while the other holds and watches the jar/pump...stop the engine as soon as the pump is empty...should only take like 2 - 3 secs. Also moaning can be the cause of air in the system or pump is under load. So if it's moaning when steering while sort of stationary (parking or something) that is pretty normal. If it's moaning regardless of RPM, I think the pump may be on it's way out...

i found my EF was leaking PS fluid somewhere, checked all fittings and hoses. finally found it to be coming out of the power steering pressure sensor. i took the plug out and it was full of oil.
so theres another spot to check! |
