I think its a pretty reasonable price, normally you pay that price with s**t rubber (re-treads). Are the rims new?

Well if you are getting the rims plus good tyres then its a good deal, other people may have found em cheaper elsewhere, but the $100 you might save youd probably have to spend on frieght or some s**t. Id take em, my red EF had superlows and EL GT copies, looked awesome

EL GT replicas are about $1350 including remoulds rated to about 140km/h - this is in WA.
$1220 including good tyres sounds cheap -buy them. It is not worth the effort searching to save $20 elsewhere. |

Actually its $1300 with remoulds, not re-treads and I've done my research on them because I was weighing up the pricing and pros and cons of getting them.
They are limited to 140 but that doesn't include short runs (ie 1/4s) because the only reason is that for long runs at high speeds they heat up and this causes the glue to melt on them. My mates blown hemmy does 360kw and he uses soft compound remoulds down the 1/4 because they grip well, and they a fair bit cheaper. if you plan on doing lots of 'country' driving then don't get them. But i got them and drive sensibly with them (apart from a few 1/4 runs) and they're holdin up really well. Grip in the wet and dry is better than some cheaper 17 tyres...obviously nothing beats good proper rubber but at 500 less i'm willing and did make that small sacrifice. Right now i couldn't be happier. Bottom line: remoulds are not for hoons but short stints above 140kms is ok. Oh, and yes that is a good price for those rims

I bought EL GT styles for $1299 with retreads a fair while ago so I think that is ballpark figure. $920 is a fair price for 4 brand newies cause they are about $250 each retail.
I just upgraded to original GT's, best move, and sold styles!!! Sold them as a set of 5 cause I bought a spare off ebay. Thought there is no point in having a style as a spare so I'll wait till one comes up. Enjoy the new rims, they'll improve the look of your car ten-fold, especially if you chop it on its a*** too!!!!! |

outta curiosity, why'd you go to the originals from the copies. Its not worth all that cash just for an extra .5" in width is it? You must have another reason behind it?

Well pretty much I prefer the champagne coloured centre cap with the ford symbol rather than the silver tickford centre caps that are on the styles.
Secondly I prefer the thickness of the spokes of the originals and they are slighty more dished. The extra half inch isn't anything exciting, can't tell when you still put 235/45 rubber on it!!! But the main reason is the originality of them. When I finish with the car I want it to be of every spec to my taste. I would never be happy with the styles, even if I didn't change them cause to me they just are that, 'styles'. For an example, you don't see a fully restored XY GT getting around with momo racing wheel, if they are doing the job properly they'll source the wheel that they come out with. Anyway, the car is in slow progress towards the final product which is going to be quite a machine when i've finished and the original gt's are just one step closer to the finish line. Cheers |
