had this problem since I bought my EL I6 auto....

when in econ mode dam thing wont change into top gear till 70 kmh and to change has to be off throttle or it changes at higher speed, now when in power mode it changes at 55kmh at no throttle... WHAT THE????

this one has me stuffed, cant figure out why it does this, has someone put in a mod or is it an ecu problem or just a qwirk with this car..

any ideas

mine does it also, i think its due to if its in 4th at 55-60 the engine is labouring thus using more fuel? not to sure tho

it's not labouring in fourth at that low of a speed, it's hardly revving.
doesn't econ normally hold gears longer if you plant it?

power mode holds gears longer than economy mode, it just doesnt change in ecom mode till 70 but in power mode it does, would have thought if anything should be other way round... hence the problem

econ mode changes the fuel maps to a more conservative way and makes the gear changes happen earlier and will hold a gear longer b4 changing down.
power or "normal mode" has standard fuel maps and gears changes are as standard too.

thats normal mate, mine does the same. into 4th @ 70 in econ. and into 4th @60 in normal.

its cause if it goes into 4th on economy when u go to accelerate good chance itll drop back cause of lack of power in 4th @ 60. so by staying in 3rd until 70 in economy its changing gears less everytime u come up to a hill etc.

i thought it was because econ mode was used for towing

power mode for towing cos it drags out the gears more so you dont labour the engine with low revs

mine seems to change gears normally.....i havent really noticed but everytime i let go of the throttle it just changes gears until i put throttle on it gears down and then back up. but not sure at what speeds. i think its normal?

btw even if the car is at low revs doesnt necesserally mean its using a lot of fuel.

phong =P~

does it select neutral by its self sometimes

if so from past experience ( me meing a mechanic ) and on my car it was the neutral switch as it also has resistore to determine wot gear and when will shift and can make select neutral believe it or not after weeks of searching and $$ replacing that was my problem switch bout 75$ trade hope it helps

Thats interesting.
In the EL - 4th happens @ 55kmh ECON
In the EF - 4th happens @ 70kmh ECON
I know because I've also compared my EF to my sisters EL. I like the EL's 55kmh/4th much better. Feels smoother.

So this brings me to my next question. Can I put an EL I6 Auto ECU into my EF I6 Auto?
