I have a 96 el fairmont and it stops compeatly after I put my foot down from start and back off then won't start again for about half an hour I'm thinking it might be then trans fluid us low and the sensor cuts the motor out till the oil runs back how can I check this it leaks a bit of trans oil after I put in a new radiator but I can find the leak. Any help would be great thanks heaps |

If the transmittion is leaking the oil has no where to go but out so you should be able to see dampness where ever it is leaking.

I replaced the radiator and had to disconnect the tranny lines from there but there is no leak from the threads but it is pooling under the radiator how do u top up the tranny oil so I don't run out in the mean time

If you have access to a hoist that would make life a lot easier.
But anyhow, take the car for a drive to warm it up to operating temp, Then give it 10-20 mins to cool somewhat. Now you'll then need to jack all 4 wheels up and have the car on stands and level as you can get it, on the (from memory) passenger side of the trans you'll see the filler plug. Carefully feel the bottom of the pan to make sure it's not too hot. Next, remove any dirt/grime/oil from around the plug and undo the plug. The oil level needs to be level with the bottom of the plug hole if the car itself is level. If not add through the filler hole. It's a P.I.T.A. job, apparently the EF II / EL - AU autos were a sealed unit that 'Don't require regular servicing'.. Pffft!! HOWEVER - YOU MUST USE THE RIGHT TRANS FLUID - CASTROL TQ95 / MOBIL ATF 95LE OR EQUIVALENT. These transmissions are VERY sensitive to incorrect fluid types or fluid levels.. or getting too hot.. or running on a day that has a 'Y' in it... you get the idea..

Transmission Fill plug is actually on the Drivers side.
