Hello, I have a EL XR6 and the LSD has seem to have s*#t itself, I have been told it will be the cones that have worn.
I have emailed a few Diff places in Melbourne and they have told me the cones will be stuffed and that they can sell me a new LSD center for $650 instead of getting my whole Diff Re-coed(which would be pricey). But then i have seen on peoples forums that they have had there's shimmed and and had there original Diff center re-built instead of buying a new one? And have also got it back and it has been nice and tight which i would like. I would just like the LSD to be able to kick in when i decide to do a little burnout instead of it being a single spinner. Has anyone had either any of these done? Any help would be much appreciated!

I just had the diff done on my EF XR6. Apparently, the diff tends to wear to the point that the cones are bottoming out in the case, and no amount of shimming can fix that. I had a mechanic mate do the re & re, but he had to send the diff to a specialist shop to do the machining. It cost me NZ$800 all up (about A$650) with labour at mates' rates. The diff is tight as! It's almost a locker - the inside tyre can chirp a little around tight corners without trying. Really puts the power down now, even in the wet. Was well worth doing.
Use top shelf oil if you want your diff to last - I've had great results with Redline Synthetic 75W140 or 80W140 GL-5 Gear Oil - it's made especially for LSDs. It's cheap insurance.
