couple more questions -

Does the EA-ED rubber boot fit? I mean the one that screws?? in to the transmission tunnel. If not are the EF/EL ones available from ford, or is there something you can modify to fit easily?

And what about the interior trim?

Thanks :)

made a good start on the conversion today

modded brake pedal to manual brake pedal size
fitted mal wood pin and clutch pedal to car
fitted new seal to extension housing of gearbox
fitted new o-ring to speed sensor
cleaned gearbox, bellhousing, brackets, cross member and sandwich plates
ordered new centre console boot from ford
had flywheel machined and purchased new clutch

couple more specific questions as i've found conflicting information on the forums

1) will the EL auto tailshaft fit the EB (S1) gearbox
2) will the speedo be out?
3) will the EB (S1) clutch cable be the correct length?

hi
1) the el tailshaft will fit in the box but the rear flange from ea to eb1 is different to eb2/ed/ef/el.
but you can use your eb auto shaft..
2) as long as the speedo gear in the manual has the same amount of teeth as the auto (or use the speedo gear from the auto as there the same)the speedo will be correct..
3) the 6 cyl clutch cables are all the same from 1989 ea to el..
hope that helps

if the engine management system thinks the auto transmission is over temp it will put the fans on permanently high speed. which is a pain :(
if they work as per normal you did it right :)

thanks for the replies

samftr i'm aware of the resistor mod to get around that. all thats left to do is buy the resistors and some flywheel to clutch bolts as they are missing from the conversion :(

Flywheel bolts are no problem to get, shouldnt cost you more than 10 bucks from ford but they'll probably have to order them in. If you have at least one though, go to a nuts and bolts place. I got all 6 then and there for about 2 bucks

sorry i meant the pressure plate bolts :)

got the flywheel bolts no problem, but the std 5/16" ford bolts dont fit this flywheel. in the end got some metric ones made for nissans. odd but they fit fine. clutch place said they've never seen a ford need metric pressure plate bolts before. odd!

finished the conversion. drives well, however unfortunately if you shift normally into 4th it grinds. if you shift a little slower its OK. i think its odd that the 4th gear synchros are worn more than the others. is there anything else that could cause this?

I don't know much about internals of transmissions, but crunching gears I was told usually means synchros. Maybe previous owner of the box kept missing 2nd and slammed it into 4th .

phong =P~

Me and a friend just did a T5 conversion in his EF Futura. We bridged some wires to make the car start, so I guess thats just shorted out whatever tells the ecu its in neutral. But his car is idling waaay too high in neutral, or whenever the clutch is in, we're talkin between 1500 and 2600 RPM!!!! So obviously we've done it the dodgy way. Can anyone please point me in the right direction so we can fix this up? I've been trying to find details but not having much luck.

Cheers

its probably because your using the auto ecu with a manual..
the ecu will think its in drive bumping your idle up.
if the ecu gets the wrong or no voltage from the gear position switch it will idle high as the ecu needs a specific voltage to reconise what gear its in..

or you need to find a manual ecu...
