Just a few Q's before I go an lower my car!
JAX has quoted me $450 for low springs and installation - good price? Would it be cheaper for me to buy the springs somewhere then ask then to install them? From reading around I think I've heard that some springs are lower than others... eg - Low Springs -> Pedders springs are lower than Kings (thats just an example I really have no idea!) ....But is that the case? Springs of the same name (ie LOW) can be different heights according to brand? Then also - How hard is it for a complete suspension n00b to install springs by myself? I've read it isnt that hard but I can't seem to find instructions on how to do it. I've got the basic gyst for the front access - unbolt from inside the engine bay...etc, and then needing spring compressors..what do you reckon - just ask JAX or someone to install them? I think thats it

Before contemplating doing anything yourself, go and buy a Gregorys or similar manual.
These will explain how to do most jobs and detail what specs you need to tension all the bolts up too. Basic tools for this job include, a jack, car stands, a good assortment of tools (sockets, spanner etc) and a general understanding of how the suspension works. BenJ

Thanks BenJ - will do!
Does anyone have an opinion about different brands of springs, because I've got to get it done but I'd to hear your opinions on different brands!

a set of king springs will set you back about $250.
in my experience kings sit lower than pedders of the same height.

I say it's a fair price including installation if it's a set of King Springs and not generic crap.
King Springs low are the same height as stock XRs, Whiteline Springs low are a tad lower but have been told have comfier ride, I think Pedders drop the car the same length as the King Springs but don't quote me. I personally haven't driven a car with any of them in, though I have sat in cars with king springs low and whiteline lows and felt that the whitelines were comfier, but not sure if that was due to shock combination either. Doing it yourself isn't too hard as BenJ said, but you need an understanding of how they work and have some handy tools. Good luck with your decision. phong =P~

Hey FowlerJ,
I'm assuming that you are doing the suspension work on your EB. As such, I'll pass on what I have learned from doing my car, an EB also. - I chose King "Low" springs. These drop the car approximately 35mm lower than standard. "Super Low" springs will drop the car approximately 55mm. These figures were confirmed to me by email from King Springs. I'm sure that if you ask other manufacturers, they should give you some figures. - I also put in new shocks all round and a shim type camber kit on the front end. I used KYB shocks at the front and Monroe GT gas on the rear. The camber kit is a Nolathane type. I understand that shortened shocks are required for super low, not low. - I chose the "Low" springs for performance, practicality, and insurance. - The install was done by a mechanic mate of mine, with me assisting. Took 4 hrs all up. Pretty straight forward, but the right tools are needed. - I got a wheel alignment straight after the install to keep the front end tidy and save undue wear on the tyres. - All up, it was well worth the $$ and the car is a dream in the corners.........!!! Best of luck.

I picked up a cheap pair of front kings off of ebay for $54 they look almost new.
and i am sure a can pick up a pair of king lows for the rear for about the same price if i wait. also you can pick up front struts suited for the kinglows for the front for $130 and $100 for the rear and the shocks are for lows. so $430 supplied and fitted is very good price, if they are kings and that includes the wheel alignment

Well... This week i thought i'd bight the bullet and order my new suspension gear for my EL. A set of Whiteline Control springs and a set of Boge Turbo short stroke shocks. Spoke direct with Whiteline and was lucky enough they actually had a set of springs ready to ship. I have read on previous other posts that people had lengthy waiting periods for supply of Whiteline springs. Went through Car Torque in SA who also had the exact shocks i was after on the shelf also. Pretty happy with that. Two phone calls and 5 minutes later my new suspension was confirmed to be ready for pick up within days. Seeing as i am unfamiliar with the altering of the car's suspension, i was curious to find out how the insurance companies come into play. Is it recomended that i advise my insurance company that my car has been lowered within the legal requirements? Or do i not inform them of the changes to the car and hope they dont screw me around down the track in the event of a possible claim if that was to occur.
Any feedback would be great. |

you can ring them up and ask them without letting them know you have a policy with them ask as a newbe and they should be able to tell you without giving yourself away.

Any feedback would be great. Good choice mate! I'm running the same set up and im more than happy, the ride quality really hasn't suffered and it handles a million times better (I did upgrade the swaybars too, id recommend getting bigger ones to compliment the springs/shocks)
