Has anybody had success fitting the EB-ED V8 BTR95 automatic and TCM onto a carburetted engine and getting it to function correctly? It looks simple enough but what to do with the EOD (engine output data) signal the TCM needs to receive from the ECU? Without this I'm sure the TCM would operate in limp home mode.

How about using a Ford AOD tranny instead???.....no TCM or ECU to worry about.

The AOD is an OK trans, but not really up to the task of a V8 with reasonable torque eg a cleveland. I've run one behind a 351C and the OD band didn't last very long. Yes, the TV linkage was correctly adjusted, but the OD band is only 1.5" wide which just isn't enough. It can be upgraded, but then there are other problems with the AOD as well like the weak double input shafts. In it's day it was an OK trans for duty behind a 302W, but not much more without a significant spend on upgrades. Baumann and Lentech do have several HP versions available but the cost is crazy
I actually have a couple of AOD-E's which I'm also investigating for conversion possibilities. Aftermarket controllers are available for these and they seem like a good option. But supply is limited since they were not offered in domestic Ford vehicles. Hence why I want to try the BTR95/97.

What about raising the oil pressure to the overdrive band/clutch pack????

That is the function of the TV, it raises the fluid pressure in response to the throttle angle. The problem with the OD band is a lack of surface area.
I'm making good progress with the BTR95. I have almost finished building a stand-alone loom that I can test on my engine & gearbox test bed. I'll be keeping the diagnostics function so this will help confirm correct operation.

the btr will work behind a carb engine, have a few customers that have done that same conversion, but there a few things you need to ensure you get right, mainly TPS and tach signal. Also interfacing it to the cluster to get the VSS working correctly. Give me a call during the week if you want to discuss 1300663128

Thanks for your reply and offer of help. I already have the TPS, tach and VSS signals worked out. My interest is the EOD signal. Any info on that like waveform, frequency, duty cycle for each operation scenario (normal operating condition, A/C on, engine over-temp) would be much appreciated. Do you have a standard landline number I can call you on from NZ? Send me a pm with it if you prefer not to list it in the open forum. Thanks again.
