Hey all,
I own a 97 EL Fairmont I6 auto. And the auto s**t me........Its really sloppy! I.e takes ages to change gears and even if you change gears manually it still takes a couple of seconds to change. I dont know if its just me bein picky or what but after I sold my XH ute which was an I6 manual that ran 14.8 at wsid, This thing feels s**t to drive. Im going to change the diff gears to 3:7 or 3:9 lsd, What would you's recommend? And was either thinking of getting a shift kit for the auto and if possible a lock up 2500rpm stall converter if possible. If I cant get the above then I might start to think about a manual conversion....... But id rather keep the auto.......Better power handling and quicker shifts than a manual. Cause at the moment im saving up for a vortech supercharger kit to suit, so that will be fun... So just wanted to know what peoples opinions are and what they recommend. Also does anyone know if you can get a 2500rpm lock up converter for these boxes without putting them into limp mode? Last of all is there anyway to completely manualise the auto???? My best friends xd has a c4 with a stage 3 shift kit and a 3000rpm coverter and thats awsum to drive. Anyway thanks heaps.

Vehicle has log books and is up to date with every service! Was a one owner vehicle I think a set of 3:9s LSD, Shift kit the box would be a good start. But what do I do about the speedo being out? Cause I very much doubt they came out with 3:9s!!! Is there some sort of electronic device that can correct the problem??? Also everyone says that any bigger than a 2500rpm stally and the car will go into limp mode. Why is that? Is there someway around it? I know there must be,but does anyone know how??? Cause ive seen 4 speed autos with big stall converters before. I only want a 2500rpm lock up stall converter. Plenty of companys sell them but I dont want to fit it, if its only going to cause trouble.
