evening fordmodders
Yesterday my BA 4-speed trans was slipping so badly, i could not get any forward movement uphill from a standing start, while cold. I could not test reverse as i had a car behind mine. I tried for 30 seconds to get movement, but no luck. today however, it had forward movement from standing start while cold. My box has been flakey at best, with it consistently sitting at around converter stall speed (2250rpm) at around 1/4 to 1/3 accellerator application once warmed up. I recently installed a reconditioned torque converter as i suspected this to be the cause. At the same time i also installed a trans cooler. Oil level is full and is checked regularly. Vehicle has done 160,000k can anyone shed some light as to which components are failing in the transmission (bands, clutches, etc) if any at all? i believe im in for another 4-speed. cheers |

have you had the pan off the gearbox?
might be the pump on the trans, they are common for failing |

mate my BF does exactly what you described occasionaly, it like it doesnt engage drive when on a hill cold. I usually just give it a bit more gas and change gears manually and it sorts itself out. As for sitting a revs etc it doesnt do anything like that however on the very first take off in the morning if i give it some gas it almost stalls where as if i let the idle take off and then press the accelerator it takes off fine.
I just put it down to the s**t 4sp auto and live with it, would have gotten a manual if i could, i have always said if my auto s**t itself i would weigh up the cost of getting a new one or converting it to manual, i think i would go with the latter though

You 100% sure its full.
Should be checked when warmish, but with the car running, preferably with trans in drive. Can be a 1 to 1.5l difference between this method and checking when cold or not running. |
