I've found some strange issues with the auto in the AU 5L..

1) With D selected and the auto in 4th gear at light throttle when I assume the converter should lock up - the econ light flashes and the car runs like crap.

2) If i manually select 1st gear, the gear display indicator on the dash says "1", the car holds 1 until I give it some throttle then it changes to "D" - and sometimes econ will flash. If I try moving from 1 to 2 and back to 1 the gear display on the dash just remains D. I need to move back to D and then back through 3, 2, 1 to get it in to 1 again. Manually selecting 2 and 3 don't exhibit this issue at all.

3) Traction control and ABS light come on after I start the car fresh and start moving. They remain on until next restart.

Could issue 3 be causing the first 2, or unrelated? It all happens with the car cold and no thrashing.

I've seen traction control and ABS come on, this was caused by leads and/or plus needing replacing. Exhaust was fried as well, but it was leads and plugs that resolved the situation. also, I cannot confirm the gear shift/selector issue though, as it was in a AU Ghia, and I was not in the car, I did not see the selection stuff, nor am I aware if gear selection was tried.

But yeah, I think the Econ flashed, car definatly ran like crap though, combination of failed exhaust and leads and plugs.

But let me guess, give yours a bootful and it behaves? if so, then different issue possibly presenting with the same symptoms.

If you want to test leads, let me know I can pull mine from the TE for you to try. Diagnosis only though.

Ah! I was pointing more toward wheel speed sensors since both systems utilise them.

And yeah, the car is performing awesome - leads and plugs are all new.

Turn off traction control and pull the ABS fuse, just to diagnose. with nothing to trip out other than the box...

It was only the traction control light staying on in ours when the leads were f**k.
Shifted gears normally , well as normal as a car running on 3 cylinders will do.
The electronics giving out on the ABS module is a common cause of traction control light and ABS light to come on. There is a guy at Rydalmere I think that reco's them fairly cheap.
With the gearbox issue Im thinking something has got corrupted in the ecu program when it was tuned.

generally the econ light flashing is from trans overheating, and if its over heating it could be the auto going into lhm...
most times when in lhm you can still manually shift..

Yeah, that's what my initial searches told me - but it happens from cold start an the dash is looking like a christmas tree so I think there's a bit more to it

Don't do this in an AU. ABS fuse controls Thermo fans too!

That goes without saying.

Damn AU's a different learning curve to E series.

Probably best to do the plugs for this first - and the big round connector to the transmission.
Troy's correct - and if the ECU 'sees' the transmission is overheating, it'll go into LHM (3rd gear and TC unlocked). Bumps the idle up to from memory.
I think thermos go flat out as well - is this happening ??

I'm guessing ABS and traction are possibly plug probs too.

Yeah, I've had some mixed idling issues - everything from way too high to way too low and hunting.

For some of the issues I've been thinking its a tune issue but maybe not. I'll have a look tomorrow.

Thanks :)
