Hey,
With my up and coming manual conversion, i just want to know, if i cant get hold of a torque wrench, is it fine to do the flywheel and clutch bolts up to FT standards? (f**k tight) I'm not likely to strip a thread out or anything silly like that? (did that on my go kart engine mount...) Cheers, Nic |

Clutch bolts don't want to be too tight, only need to be 10-15NM from memory which is just hand tight but not too tight.
Flywheel bolts are very important and need loctite as well. Know someone who has had them come out on them before.. Try and find one, or even someone in QLD who has one. May as well do it right the first time. You want the flywheel to be as balanced as possible having each bolt in at the same torque rating.

cool with the clutch bolts.
yeah, i've got loctite for the flywheel bolts, and i realise how important it is to do them up properly. I've got a mate helping me do the conversion who used to work on the brutes, i think he referred to it as "3 grunts tight" 
just worried i wont be able to find the wrench in time, thats all cheers for that |

its meant to be bloody tight, stupidly even, was looking in the manual last time we did it. was like over the top. i dont even think we could get it that tight :p

their up around 70ish nm IIRC. doing them 'f**k tight' is all well and good, but i found when your lying under the car like that, its a little hard to determine just how much force your putting on a bolt.

There is a different torque spec for the newer bolts, they are torqued lower and can break, do a search as this was noted in a previous thread where values were given.

70 to 80nm... Which is about 3/4 FT. The old bolts, which were only ever seen on EA/EB1 were 110nm, which is basically FT when you lying under a car. So heed twason's warning. |

cool thanks heaps for that guys.
and yeah, i'll take care around the clutch bolts too. hopefully i'll be able to borrow a torque wrench from someone though first
