If i was to get superlows on my el fairmont, some people say don't need to change the shocks straight away, if you were going to change the shocks OR for some reason u have to straight away which shocks most likly would be changed, front or rear. Everyone welcome to add anything to what i have said.
Thanks people. |

some will say "you dont need too" they are cheap, do the jb right 1st time, shortend shocks dont cost much,
if you want it to handle even better, make sure all your bushes are in good nick, if not replace, then a set of bigger swaybars will see body roll disapear. as krytox said, parts on these cars are getting old and wor now, never be cheap around suspension and brakes. |

when a standard shock is compressed lower then they are made to they build up alot of pressure and can easily explode over large bumps/gutters ect leaving you bouching all over the place

If you're going superlows then you really need shortened shocks with bump rubbers. You can get by with standard shocks but they will bottom out, and the springs will ride up on the edge of the lower bucket at the rear. That probably wont hurt them but spring places will tell you that is how you can break springs. Who knows? But by the way, shorter shocks aint cheap.

Huggie, sorry mate but i have never heard of a shock exploding when fully compressed and if it was the case why are they packed compressed?

um....shorter shocks are like same price as normal shocks...as i was quoted.. What i would like to know... will all the shocks be stuffed.. (read the quote above), front and rear.... or what? will front bottom out like the rear shocks? or vice versa etc? |

i too say don't bother. whilst it is true that a shock/strut to suit a lowered spring will handle and ride better it is not absolutely neccessary. to answer your question the fronts are more critical. you may even find the rears are the same part no. for std and lowered.

save up and get shocks all round. then get them installed all at the same time......the hard part is saving up.
