Ok i tried your trick with removing the rubber today to give you a chance.....
stuff that its horrible, if you had a lumpy idle it would f**k your hand in no time. It doesnt feel better in any way shape or form. I dont see the point

I tried this and it's s**t! Nothing wrong with the T5 in the first place, i've driven much worse manual cars.

What you're used to I guess. I'm used to a very notchy, accurate and precise feel and immediatley loved the shift without the rubber, I thought others may as well.... I'll shut up now |

The T5's are not the Best box in the world, and yes, the rubber does wear out after a while, I have not tired removing the rubber yet, but thats because my T5 has been totally reco'd and the rubber part is just about new .
But I've seen a LOT of stuffed T5's in my time ... I think I've got about 4 wrecked ones, (unrepairable) in the workshop . |

I put a brand new PBR performance clucth in my car with new pressure plate and clutch cable.
I also had the Gear box filled up with redline fluid. These too mods had made a large difference to shift quality and feel. Thats one way to improve the feel of the T5. |

I might give it a go.
What fluid/oil do you run in your T5 bozz. I don't mind the way mine feels to shift at all (even if it is noisy as hell). I've compared it to a few jap cars and it aint all that much different. How come your driving a falcon now anyway? It seems like you really hate them... |

Just std dexron 3 I only want one car, I'd prefer a raised 4WD for hard bush work and a sportscar but I need to tow up to 2 tonnes, a falc is about the best compromise for my needs. Cheers |

Is it an ATF or MTF? Gearbox has to be taken apart to fix other issues so i'll try it when I reassemble it Cheers |

i run dx 3 atf coz thats what the book says and it helped coz it was full of thick as gear oil shift is spot on as for clutch feel mines got a genuine ford ts50 clutch and it feels sensational

Isn't their an additive that we're ment to put in the t5 gearoil?
I haven't put it into mine and it shifts fine. Only problem is that pesky crunch into reverse if i'm not careful. I've been told that it's because the earlier t5's don't have a brake on the reverse idler. Can anyone confirm that?

Yeah the additive is called "Lubrizol"
good luck finding it however most people seem to think modern dex3 fluids have enough additives to do the same function. v8fordman - the fluid doesn't affect this modification one little bit. Put your car in gear then wobble the gearstick left and right and THAT is the slack that dissapears when you remove the rubber coupling. It also stops the up/down slack too which is what makes the gearchanges much nicer, notchy and direct. |
