I've have the dreaded BA caliper rattle problem!!
I changed the anti rattle shims without any results. I can also grab the caliper while the wheel is on. As I shake the the caliper it slightly moves. When I took the wheel off to inspect the problem, I noticed that the slide pins were tight with some slight play ... hmm. Anyway, I did a bit more research and found a couple of sights that sell modified slide pin kits for BA and BF specific to fixing the brake caliper, rattle issues. This makes sense to me from what I have seen on inspecting this issue. So I will be ordering the kit for my BA. What are your thoughts ? Ive got the same issue with an AU XR8 with the premium brake package, extremely annoying and still present after fiting new pads and discs.
Have contacted them to see if can fix thw AU, its not so simple to just go get a new set when the calipers have the tickford emblem cast/machined into the metal. Fingers crossed, ill post up the response,

Very cool . I still have to check out partwise. I've still got the rattles. I also spoke witbe a colleague a while ago withe dreaded caliper rattle, his mechanic replaced the rotors with new slotted ones. He says that the rattle has been fixed.

Im also wondering if a rebuild of the pistons/calipers are in order. 16 year old v8 with an auto trans and 225k kilometres...theyve seen some abuse.

the slide pins are known to wear and allow the caliper to move excessively in relation to the mounting bracket

oops.... missed the link in the original post.... if youve replaced the shims and the pins there isnt really anything left that will allow a rattle.... are you sure its the brakes?

Yeah most definitely. ... i can also hit the side of the wheel and hear the rattle. Or as i drive around a round about, the rotor scrap as they aren't held property in position. As i have read in other posts and also experienced, mechanics that i have been to so far ain't interested in checking out the problem.

Is this on the front only?
How old are your front hubs? |
