Hi all, I have a 1998 Ford Ranchero xh 4.0 with a T5 manual gearbox that is in bad shape. It whines in 1st to 3rd, won't go into 4th and sometimes jumps out of 5th. Spares for this gearbox is not easily available in South Africa an is very pricy. So I want to know what other options do I have? Do you know if the 4.0 engine/ bellhousing bolt pattern is the same as on a 302 v8 as I can get a bellhousing to fit a 302 to a Toyota cressida 5 speed gearbox. If I can't get an affordable option then I may need to do a conversion to the v8.

Also where can I find engine spares online for this car, as ford sa is no longer bringing them in. I was looking for a distributor cap, rotor arm, coil and I can't get them here.

Please any help would be appreciated.

The 302 V8 bellhousing won't bolt up to the 4.0L OHC block. Another option, for your T5, is a rebuild kit. I buy my parts for T5s from The Gearbox.org in the US. I have a Tremec T5 rebuild manual in PDF format that I can send to you if you want. They're not hard to fix.

For used Ford parts, you can try Autoparts.com. The website puts you in contact with about 500 wreckers around Australia. Ebay Australia is where you can buy a lot of new parts (albeit some are Chinese made ).
