hey all

noticed when reversing last nite, my reverse lights aren't always working :? sometimes they'd come on, sometimes not - i sat & dropped in between P & R to test. on occasion there would be a decent clunk between the gears, which really wasn't healthy! i checked the fuse - all fine. i'm assuming it can't be the bulbs, as both work well when they come on.

any thoughts? its a pretty irritating problem!

the switch in your tranny which says 'I'm in reverse" ... guessing that is on the blink coz your lights and fuses circuit seems to be working ok. And the clunk would suggest something is astray in yer gear box .... simple to fix!

well, I wouldn't bother - replace the switch, it just bolts off/on ... if you have any strange clunky noises AFTER that I would go for a service.

The reverse switch also contains the starting inhibitor, so check that the car only motors over in Park or Neutral. If your reversing lights come on sometimes, maybe the switch connectors are dirty - i.e. might be soaked in auto trans fluid/crap/grime, etc, so you may get away with just dowsing them with metho or similar - worth a try if that's the case. Check the adjacent wiring while your at it. Might save getting another switch. As far as the clunk goes, just monitor and see if it gets worse, then you may need to get it looked at.

could be the reverse switch thing, taht is also the gear shifter sposition indicator swtich thing. ie tells it when its in 3,2,1 etc... 70 dollars ish i think.. easy to replace as its on the side of the box.

ring up a tranny place to see if that fix matches your symptoms. they should have seen it before.
