Hey guys
I am about to tackle my brake rotors (fronts, rears) and also want to spray my calipers and change my front bearings. Is there anyway of disconnecting the calipers without losing all ur brake fluid??? Cheers |

well use what we call a little condom to fit over it, or just tie the caliper back.

No what im saying is that i want to take the calipers off to spray em, so i will need to disconnect the brake lines. Is there anyway to stop the loss of fluid or dont i have a choice

i guess you could clamp the brake line? but i dont know how recommended this would be? could severly weaken it?

Pair of vicegrips holding the rubber part of the line so it squeezes it together.
When you spray your caliper i recommend you use VHT Caliper paint. But PREP it something chronic, give it a good clean with prepsol, carby cleaner or something tough with a rag. DO NOT however allow any cleaner to enter the brake fluid hole or the piston itself. Give it a light sand or even a rougher one, if you have a orbital go for it lol and make sure u get all the grease out of the little bits. Spray light coats, take your time.. each caliper if you want it to come out REALLY nice and professional take your bloody time spraying them up. This is my one i did recently and how it turned out. (mind you gotta hand paint-brush the damn logo again, grr!) |

Awesome thanks for the advice
Now for my next problem lol i replaced my rotors and bearings today (all went well exept i didnt clean the oil in between the vents and after a while my rotors smoke) and i think i f**k up by putting the left rotor on the right and vise versa. Is this really bad?? should i change them back asap or will they be ok?? |

are the slotted or crossdrilled? then yeah, often teh patterns are directional. If they're plane jane rotors or non-directorional slots don't really matter.

put a clamp into the caliper so it pushes the piston back in, but make sure you take the cap of your resivor. |

the slotted rotors are directional. while the disks are off. change the bearings. and replace the carriers with the one from the bearing packets. you may need to get them pressed in, but i guess its safer having bearings that are sitting true. (the carriers are matched to the bearings). I just went through all this on saturday. |

We scared a few ppl around lol (they were pointing at all the smoke) on the box it should say left and right hand. have a look in my post see if your slots are the same angel on the left hand side as mine. ( I took a pic of the left hand side) http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9475 |
