Next thing on the to do list on my s**t is to fix whatever is causing vibrations through my steering wheel. The shake is pretty bad at 100kmhr, it probably moves a cm each way, very rapidly.
Originally I thought it was warped rotors, but I've got new rotors and pads all round - no diff. I got some new tyres for my 15" rims, had them all balanced - no diff Threw some stockos on - no diff I now have a set of original BA XR 17s, so I'm using spacers, and the vibration is able to felt ever so slightly more now than ever. These wheels were balanced a few days before I put them on. So I've ruled out a brake / tyre / rim issue (I hope). I asked a mechanic mate of mine what it might be, and he suggested (IIRC) the upper control arm bushes may be shagged, leading to some slop? Any help would be magic |

it be most likely to be ur radius bushes cause they take most of ur braking but i could be worng it may only be a ball joint but ill be definitely checking the raius bushes.

Okay, thanks, its also been suggested the tie rod ends may be loose.

I had heaps of trouble with vibes, no-one could figure out what it was. Replaced all the ball joints: no more vibes, no more problems

It seems its my wheel bearings, tightened them up (very tight) and the slop is gone on one wheel, but still slightly there on the other. Will get some new ones when s**t open again.

Wheel alignment can also play a part in such behaviour.
Replace the bearings like you said, then check your joints. If they are good, get an alignment and your problem will be gone.

Make sure the bearing bolt isn't done up too tight...and when you tighten up the bolt that you actually rotate the wheel while you tighten the bolt, that way the bearings will sit in the way it should, rather on an angle. Once you have tighten them, you got to undo it one whole rotation, then tighten them again finger tight only. phong =P~

Check your rack ends and tie rod ends for excessive play.
Falcons are famous for excessive play in the rack ends.

There was quite a lot of play in the bearings, so I'm pretty sure its just them.
All the movement is gone in one wheel, and about half gone in the other. Steering wheel shake has halved as well, so I think I've found the problem. I'll report back after I've got new bearings in whether its 100%. |

Okay, so its not the wheel bearings completely.
Replaced both sides and the shake is still there, though less than before.... so this means I've also got something else buggered/worn/loose that needs attention. |

As i had mentioned before look for movements in your steering rack ends and tie rod ends.Then go get yourself a wheel alignment.

It will be bushes and or Ball joints. I had the same problem, after repeated bearing and rotor replacements I even replaced the steering rack and ends without any change. Finally I replaced upper and lower ball joints and all bushes and the problem is now finally gone.
