Hey all,
My gearbox is suffering from a weird "metal on metal" noise. It almost sounds as if there is no oil in the gearbox. (Its full by the way). Mainly in 1st and 2nd and a little in 3rd. It also makes a "dry" sort of noise when in neutral. One of my mates said that it may be the main bearing??? If any one knows what it may be an help would be very much appreciated. Cheers

main bearing wtf is a main bearing ?
i have the same problem the noise started out in neutral and i thought it was the neutral shaft bearing(s) but now (read: getting worse) you can hear it through pretty much all gears, usually only evident from 1st to 3rd because thats just the way it's geared/transfers load. so now i'm lead to think it's the input shaft bearing(rear) because the other weekend i took the snout of the t5 and the input shaft slaps around like an untrained seal. i'm also inclined to believe it's a bearing problem because when unloaded the noise is significantly worse than when loaded.
