the AU has been starting to slip a bit in the gearbox when its real cold, where it will slip outa drive into neutral for 2-4 seconds then bang back into drive.
Im buggered if I can find out how to top up/change the fluid in it to see if that solves the prob. anyone shed any light on that?

AU & EL autos have the same "problem", the "dipstick" is on the side of the auto (drivers side) take it out and check for fluid the same as you would for your diff. I.E, if you can't feel any oil, put more in.
And yes, the symptoms you said usually points to low oil (read leaks), or really old oil. If no leaks, i suggest changing the auto fluid (the manual says never to do it!!!!) needs to be changed at least once every 50,000km, same as diff oil.

there is no dipstick unless its been put in by some one.
there is a plug on the side of the transmission, the ony hick up is you need to get it as level as possible to check it or top up.

to save you hassles down the track use a 5/8th socket (single hex if possible) DO NOT use a 16mm coz if the bolt is tight enough you will round the head and then your stuffed
