A vote for trans fluid, removing the dipstick was a s**t idea.

i have an el XR8 n the manual says" the dipstick is located in the rightside of the engine compartment" what the hell are they talking bout cos i cant c one. or am i blind

That manual must be screwed up, dipstick was deleted EF2

Is it an EL owners manual? I own a 10/96 EL and the original owners manual states where to check the oil level.

i dont wanna sound too stupid but i jumped under the car and couldnt find a filling point any where.

its a bung bolt plug that you unscrew and fill it untill it over flows from there, the car has be be almost dead level.

defently sounds like a fluid level problem as i get the same problem maybe twice a year (have a little leak there).

costs me about $60 to get a shop to drain and refill.

besides ford being money hungry and wanting us to take our cars into them to look at the fluid level, is there any other reason they removed the dipstick?

i also am having the same probs

i have a 97 el auto which didnt have a dip stick.

when i went to hospital i was a bit spaced out so i didnt have much of a say. any how my auto was stuffed and my pop got it replaced for me

the one they put in has a dip stick.

-what model would it have come from if it has the dip stick?
-would it take the oil as recomended for the el, as i noticed they have different oil?
-also what should the oil in the box be like cos mine is brownish and smells similar to motor oil?

any help would be much apreciated

Could be any auto from EAII to EFI if it has a dipstick you wont be able to tell unless you look for the tag on the side of the auto (drivers side) also the EF onwards auto's have more ribs on the housing... they all take the same oil also.. Castrol TQ95
