ive got a 92 fairlane and just replaced my lazzy 3.9L for a 4.0L but its now holds gears for far to long and jolts when it does change. it wont go into over drive either.
can some tell me what the problem would be and how to go about fixing it as the mechs that made the transplant have put 2 engines in and 4 and half weeks of pain of going back and fourth to them with problems thanks guys |

easy fix would be a manual conversion... but sounds like they put a whole engine and trans in together, rather than your old (good) trans with the new (better) engine - sounds like the box that's in it now might be rooted

Just been in it for a drive so ill try and give a better idea of whats going on.
In first gear it holds it till about 2200rpm then changes quite hard. from 2nd to 3rd it takes even longer to change..the cars needs to be revving around 2500rpm for it to change into 3rd whilst also giving a hard gear change its not as hard as the 1st to 2nd. Took it on the freeway to try and get it into 4th but it wouldnt move even at 3500rpm so we backed off.thats driving with 20% throttle. When he had the previous engines in there(new engines) the gearbox was working fine not a hint of trouble but for some reason its f**k up now with this other engine. also of note its changing down gears fine at high speeds but not at low speeds. We disconnected the battery for an hour to see if that would fix it but no good as i thought the gearbox comp would relearn the shift patterns but noooo... I've got no f**k idea as to what the prob is could it be old oil or a s**t solinoid? any ideas or experience with this problem who can help would be great.

probably a crappy vp5 solonoid in the auto, common problem, you're looking at $500 for a fix.

Sideye took it to an auto place today to get a diagnostic and its either the TPS which they didnt connect or the s5 solinoid.
will update tomorrow arvo.
