hi guys driving home from work today my tranny decided to go into limp home mode, or other words stuck in 3 rd gear.
this was after about 5 min of driving, car was previously cold. let the car sit for 1 hour and went for another drive ok around town then went on the highway and accelerated and back into limp mode. also i noticed a loss of spedo indication when in limp home mode. ambient temp was 34 degrees temp gauge was fine 90-95degrees tranny has always been good apart from this arvo, recently had tranny service by automatic specialist 2000km ago and vehicle has a history of transmision services 205 000kms on the clock. checked transmision fluid via correct procedure in owners hand book and is on the right mark. no oil leaks or nothing obvious, only think that has changed in the last few days is i changed the exhaust and mean while found a few bolts loose on the transmision sump pan so tightened them up. this is my first auto EF can any one point me in the right direction?

maybe the speedo not working is the cause of going into limp mode, loose wire or something maybe.id look into that first

It is the reason.
Check the speed sensor, it's cable, the connector at the gearbox, and the rectangular connector plug near no6 injector.

checked throtle position sensor all pins ok not sticking, also had a good look at wiring and plug to speed sensor looked ok, also removed speed sensor and checked condition of the plastic cog looked fine no wear.
since I reset the computer the car has been fine no problems, so hope what ever it was went away.

yer still having problems made sure all the wiring to the speed sensor was good checked connection and cleaned the pins, and still on occasion the spedo stops working
Now suspection the speed sensor is faulty, just waiting until I go into town and can pick one up, My question is has any one else had a faulty speed sensor and is it common? dont want to spend $ 70 on a sensor that isn't the problem.

I had a similar prob a while back. Was actully the connector that goes to the box. The sendor was fine, but the connector had worn and wasnt staying in place. A cable tie fixed that and havent had a problem since
