I have F1's on the front of my XR8 and the car is all over the show, does anyone else have this problem?

Ive got em all round on the FBT and havent noticed anything like that, sits firm and straight on the road

F1's.. hmm!
Basically the problem with these tyres are when new there absolutely f**k fantastic and even more so in the wet. PROBLEM being soon as they dry or be in direct sunlight for a prolonged time they get VERY hard and make some severe road noise and drive like a warped tyre. Common problem and known problem with them too! Go trade them in for some second hand tyres, as in ask to trade them for some other second hand tyre and pay $50-100 and keep yourself happy! my opinion anyhow! |

I'm guessing its not the tires, but either the outer tie rod ends, or the inner control arm bushes. The urethane control arm bushes Ford use degrade over time, to the point where the pin inside them can move around 3/4mm either way. Imagine the toe and camber changes that can be caused by the whole lower arm moving in and out while its hitting irregularities on the road. It ends up pulling all over the place, to the point where its dangerous. Seems to be a common theme at the moment. I've replaced 2 sets in the last 4 weeks (one being my car) and a couple of other Tickford suspension setups I have seen already have the urethane bush replaced with a standard rubber bush. My mechanic has replaced a few already as well. Last car I did had both the rod ends and bushes were dead, and it was a danger to drive. Unless you have 100% concerntration and avoided every wheel rut, tramline, etc on the road, the car would be all over the road. |

For my car it was really good when I got it, wouldn't move off the straight line, but as soon as the bushes got a noticeable amount of wear in them they got worse very quickly due to the amount of movement in the control arms, which I guess in turn stuffed the tie rod ends. When we pulled them out, they were absolutely shagged, looked like a rat had eaten through the bushes. No matter how bad the tyres are, I highly doubt you could put it down to this causing the problem. Jack the front of your car up off the ground, grab the wheel at 3 and 9 o'clock and move it left and right, if there is movement, take a look at where the movement is coming from and it will be most likely in the inner lower control arm bushes. There are the urethane xr tickford bushes and the rubber bushes, rubber being cheaper but wont last as long but are a little softer, and the urethane bushes last longer, wont degrade as quickly and are a slightly firmer bush. From the tie rod ends and bushes being out, this put the camber out further than what it already was so now I gotta invest in a camber kit, two new front tyres (SP3000's) and a wheel alignment. So I reckon get straight into it and get the problem rectified so it doesn't create more problems like mine did. Good luck!!!! |

I got the new generation of Eagle F1's on the front of the XR8, and im happier than a pig in poop. I reckon theyre the best tyre i have ever had on the front, plenty of grip, no understeer, great in the wet. I wouldnt run anything else on the front now.

I've just put on the GS-D3s all round. Extremely happy with 'em. Stick like glue on wet or dry roads.

well, the b**ch is still a piece of s**t 2 drive, but I looked at all the points you guys have suggested and ??????????????????.The point about the control arms seems to sound like the most possible cause, and the tyres have seen better daze, so f**k it I have found an honest tyre guy who works wit falcon suspension, so he can fix it

UPDATE! ,it was the tyres, I changed them to those SAVA cheapies and have found the car has lost the urge to wander all over the road, plus the bad vibration has departed as well??? goodyear are usually top quality.
also found a couple of other oddities, broken engine mount+gearbox rear mount ,but they will be changed tommorow. cheers. kenny
