Hey all, spent almost $2000 at pedders getting the EA sorted... rack, front shocks, ball joints and plenty of bushes front/rear but still had a clunk from the front end. Seemed worse on take off but only when the EA was warm!? Yeah go figure. Took it back to pedders and they said all was good, they were thinking gearbox mounts. Anyways I was at the stage where the clunk was giving me the s***s big time when the penny dropped. When I replaced the brake pads I remember noticing some free play in the pads about 3mm, so today I stuffed a bit of plastic between the anti-rattle plate and the pad loacating lug on the spindle, I can no longer move the pads by screwdriver force and hopefully when I drive it tomorrow I'll let you know if it's a sucess or not, if so I wanna find something a bit better than cut up cable tie to take up the slack.

you shouldnt have any free play between the pads and the discs. if what your saying is correct then it sounds like the pots are sticking :?

Plastic resting on brake parts does not sound at all like a good idea :oops:
As you have spent $2000 on suspension, just take it to a brake specialist and get them to check it out for you. The reality is it would not cost much for the check and may even be free :D
Better that than flames coming from your front wheels :?

Yeah true. It's not going to be a good indicator of whats going on because the plastics just going to go soft and melt almost instantly..

Hmm guess I didn't describe that too well, i have no probs with the pads relative to the disc or caliper, actually fade wise the pads are bloody good - ferodo heavy duty, they just have a bit of backwards and forwards movement between the pad and where they sit on the spindle, it's hard to describe. There is a small steel L shaped plate that the top corner of the pads slide on so they don't damage the spindle locating tabs, I bascially put a spacer between the tab and the plate to take up the slack. Anyhoo went for a run tonight and the clunking noise is almost gone, I'll have another look at the brakes this weekend and might just get a different brand of front pads that fit better. Trouble is performance wise what I have now works real well for a standard set up, better even than the slotted rotors I had in my AU, they're just a bit noisy. Pedders have looked at the brakes before and found no probs that's why I'm lookin.

i know what u r talkin abt but as has already been said plastic and brakes don't mix, use a metal spacer if u need one, or talk to a brake guy and they may have somethin off the shelf they can give u.

I'd talk to a brake place or a good mechanic - they'll either have an off the shelf part or perhaps be able to bend up some thicker plates.

thanks guys, i'll have a closer look in the shed for a better spacer but reckon i'll just take it to a proper brake shop and see what they got to say, not the first time pedders said my car was ok when it wasnt!
