i bought a set of DBA X drilled and slotted front brakes and from what i have read, my standard run of the mill 94' EF falcon does not have ABS, but apon taking my original disks off i found that it has the sensor and the hall effect ring inside. never mind i say it must be a what if i need it later thing, so i go and put the new disks on and find there's no dust seal in the packaging so i attempted to take tyhe ones off the standards and got one off but the other i fkd up majorly. and so i got them all fitted and they look hot (oh just to add i broke the bottom caliper bolt on the drivers side too) so i go for a test drive and now the Check A.B.S light comes on after a minute or so of driving and also my brake pedal now almost goes to the floor.
P.S i also put brand spanka new Ferodo racing anti fade pads on too. Can someone add some info to if i have stuffed it up or what i did wrong as i did the rears with no hassle at all, but the fronts are all new to me. does my car have and or need the abs because if i hit the skids on the dirt the fronts lock up. and before anyone sez "Take the ABS light out" i'm not doing that.

Jesus Christ. My motto is if you don't know what your doing don't mess with the brakes lol.
I'm not sure if I misread your post or not, but if you fitted non-abs rotors, then yes the ABS light will come on. |

FFS get someone to check out your front brake handiwork - not only do you put yourself at risk, but other drivers as well.

you broke a caliper bolt? did u replace this bolt BEFORE u went for a test drive? i hope so
bleed the brake system as it sounds u may have air in there.. my advice take it to a mechanic who know what they are doing!

Your ABS will never work with those discs, you should have taken them back as soon as you found out you had the wrong ones. AFAIK the tone ring cannot be added later.
When you removed the caliper, did you undo the brake fliud line on it? If you did your brakes will need bleeding and this will explain why the pedal now goes to the floor. I also hope you have replaced that caliper bolt, but not only replaced it. replaced it with the correct grade. These bolts are high tensile I think grade 10. If you havn't already take the old bolt to a bolt shop and get them to match it up properly.

Mate i done the same thing i have ABS and installed non ABS DBA slotted.Brakes r fine i just dont have ABS.(my mistake) BUT u should not drive ur car in the condition ur brakes r in,get it professionally done!

This job would of cost $140 MAX To have fitted, people like you should have a orange strobe light bolted to your head so we can see you coming and get out of your way. Take the thing to the ex perts and get it fixed properly.

yeah cheers for the flaming that i didn't need to hear as i know i should have got help BUT as i am in a remote area and won't learn unless i do it myself.
All i needed was some guidence from the fordmod squad. i am putting the originals back on this morning and getting ABS ones tomorrow, and yes i will be putting them on myself as i now know what i'm looking for.

yeah we can be a bit harsh at times - but it is all for your own good lol ... at least you now know what to do.
Pulling the abs fuse will let your brakes work fine, without abs obviously, until you can drive straight to a repair place. But all you need are the correct rotors, and a new bolt!

When you push the piston back into the caliper to put them back over the pad, take the lid off the brake booster, under the bonnet, until you're done.

dont ABS rotors have a little pot for the sensor to sit in?! that was my thoughs, and if you dont have the pots on the non ABS rotors, where did the sensor go!?

the sensor is fitted into the arm and reads the ring on the disk, well i have put the olds back on got a new bolt (albeit they didn't have the exact one but i got a high tensile 5/16 a*** thread) and i now have my new DBA 132 X's on their way from N.S.W as we speak and i can return these other ones then for a straight swap.
one thing i noticed on the dba rotors is that there was no dust seal for the back of the rotor as the standards had one on the inner of the abs ring. am i sposed to get a seal myself or are they sposed to come in the box with one? i know i fkd up but now i was able to swap the newies over to the old ones in 30 mins for both sides, dead easy once ya get a flaming and told what to do.

The seal is extra, you should be able to pick them up from any auto parts store, for a couple of $ each

well when i had the non abs rotors on the brakes worked as normal except the dash light came on, now to my next question: my brakes feel quite soft and i thought it must be air in the line so i bled them and the left side had a bit of water or brownish liquid in the first squirt but then it went to the nice greenish colour and the needle was a little corroded and same on the right bank but no air came out of the line and my brakes still feel very soft even with the new rotors and new pads and old rotors new pads.
any ideas on what else i can do for my brakes to make them a bit firmer? and can anyone confirm about if my car does or does not have ABS as i can't find the pressure control module in the engine bay or under the front arches!
