Im looking around here at the brake upgrades and am not too keen on changing my offset etc etc.
so i have been thinking about using some 32 gtr style 4 pot fronts and 2 pot rears, on a set of 300mm slotted rotors and making brackets etc to fit. has any one done this before or heard of anyone doing similar to this setup

never seen anyone do a kit with the gtr calipers, anthing is possible, but it won't be easy.
there is alot of work involved in a brake upgrade on these things. it is very easy to say that you'll be 'making brackets etc to fit', it is alot harder in practice.

The Crescent motorsport kit uses GTR brakes, but it isn't as simple as making a few brackets. The upright needs modification to make it work

I dont know what needs to be done, but it is the kit that is currently on my Fairmont. And i can say it is 3 times better than standard with no fade even from 180 down to 40 ( then end of WSID on the turn around road). I dont have any photo's, but am sure they were on display at the 2005 Sydney AFD, so maybe check the events section of the gallery. They did change the offset to AU though, and have 330mm rotors.

It could conceivably be done with nothing more than a grinder (or a hacksaw if your a masochist)

Settle down Jnr, its not THAT easy - you will need some hubs (as on e series falcons the hub and rotor are one unit) - these will cost you $300 to $500, the caliper brackets need to be spot on add another $200 - $300, you will probably require custom brake lines (another coupla hundred) plus the cost of the rotors and calipers - unless you have some serious metalworking skills i wouldnt suggest going at it yourself, and unless you fully understand how everything is supposed to go together i wouldnt suggest designing anything yourself. You will also find that as soon as any engineering workshop finds out that you want stuff made up for a road car they will either throw you out the door or double their prices. budget for around $1500 all up and dont start anything untill you understand completely just exactly what it is your doing.

EASY DONE! cheers!! lol, read my post again. you will need a mill to machine flat sections of the upright where your caliper bracket will go. the bracket itself is going to have to be spot on. you'll need a hub if you are using slip on discs, otherwise use EL GT rotors, which you may have an issue getting the GTR calipers too fit because of the location of the disc face in relation to the spindle itself.

hubs will have to be custom, 330mm rotors, well, everyone else is using the either the EL GT 330mm rotor or the mustang slip on 330mm rotor.
it really depends on where the GTR calipers sit though, they are 4 piston so im guessing (pretty safely!) they are alot wider then a single or even twin piston sliding caliper, i would be leaning toward the mustang rotor, but you are gonna be hard pressed to get the offset the same... if you REALLY want to do this and think you have the skill, asking these questions will get you nowhere, you'll have to get out there, buy some GTR calipers and start seeing for yourself what will and won't work.

AU hubs are nowhere near close to fitting the earlier falcon spindles, you need custom hubs there is a bloke on ebay called mr-spares, who sells a brake upgrade kit for E-falcons you should be able to buy just the hubs off him for around $300, or maybe for a little bit more off hopper stoppers. your engineer mate should also be able to make up a set of hubs for you (out of the appropriate material). Go away and research what upgrades are available for the falcon, what cars use the same stud pattern as the falcon and what size discs they have, and whether the GTR calipers will suit them. then go to the wreckers and buy a secondhand falcon upright with brakes, and a large diameter wheel to go with it, then measure measure measure and figure out which rotor/caliper should fit while giving you the same offset and fitting behind the wheel (luckily E-falcons have a fair bit of room behind the wheel) . get your mate to modify the upright (it will look nicer if its done with a machine), make the hubs and caliper bracket, then find a mob who can make up ADR stamped brake lines. THEN report back to us about what youve done.
