Hi all, I have an 2001 AU wagon with 183,000k's. It has a strange shift problem that is as follows:

Econ switch on:

When I take off from stopped the car will change hard from 1st to 2nd gear in the range of 1500 to 2000 rpm. Higher or lower revs and it changes smoothly although it does that econ switch thing where the gears sometimes change slowly when changing from 2nd - 3rd - 4th. All the changes after 1st to 2nd are smooth regardless of the revs. Engine does not rev out when changing.

Econ switch off:

When I take off from stopped the car will change really hard from 1st to 2nd gear in the range of 1300 to 2300 rpm. Higher or lower revs and it changes smoothly. All other changes through the gears are smooth regardless of revs. When I first bought the car it would change down really roughly but this has now gone away. Engine does not rev out when changing.

Being an AU, it doesn't have the gearbox dipstick so I can't check the fluid levels until I get under it.

Anyone able to advise me what it might be?

Does it do the hard change hot or cold and is there noise at all?

could be it needs a flush and or tranny service

and the diff oil could do with a change at those kms

My EL had this problem, and talking to my auto guy its always the expensive S5 solinoid $475 vs $125 for all the other ones.
