hi all, just wanted to ask people about the heavy duty clutches they have in there falcons. ive got an el falcon 6 banger and ive just carried out the manual conversion, ive fitted a heavy duty valeo clutch in it with a machined flywheel,re-enforced pedal box with new bushes, new clutch cable, pedal, throwout bearing etc etc,ive adjusted the clutch cable to the factory pedal height, the clutch is quite heavy which i expect but a soon as i got to take off the clutch clamps pretty much about an inch off the floor and takes off like a scalded cat, is this normally for these type of clutches? ive never had a h/d clutch in any of my other cars and i thought maybe the pedal would come out further before it takes off.its not so much a problem its just taking a little bit to get used to. any feedback would be great. thanks

Thats how mine was with a HD unit, with a 5 puck button clutch now its pretty much the same. Its pretty easy to drive though, just feed more throttle into it once it bites rather than rev it up and slip the clutch.

My clutch industries RPM kit with is i guess what you call stage 1 heavy duty, feels a bit heavier (but not all that much) than stock, and if you don't rev the car up a bit more on take off you can stall it, due to how well it grabs.

With a stock clutch i could slip it out slowly at about 800 to 900rpm & take off easy. New clutch needs about 1200 or it will stall. Great to tow with too.

Cheers

What is the part no for the valeo clutch ?? - some are good (the 6 bolt setups), some way too hard (3 bolt setup). If it's too hard, you'll put stress on the throwout fork, pedalbox, and most, the cable, and something will give over time.
Got it from Sunbury Brakes did you ??

You'll find the part no you quoted to be pretty good - not much harder feel than std.

+1.

I have that clutch in my ute, and I have no problems with it in traffic every day. Only a little heavier than a standard clutch, and very easy to use. I have my clutch pedal a little higher than the brake pedal, but I am comfortable with it. I have probably 3" of travel from the floor before it starts to engage, as well as about 2" of freeplay at the top of the pedal, before any pressure on the clutch.
Maybe you need to adjust your pedal for a bit more travel before it "bights"?

If you give your car a belting/skid it then a hd clutch wont hold up for long, Ive done 2 in my car and its <200rwkw.

admitantly the exedy hd in the 3 bolt clutch started to slip after 4 burnouts and 4 1/4 mile runs at the track..
but the 6 bolt version is holding up excellant.. the problem now lies in the gearbox, it cannot handle the harsh load and torque..

?? some sort of other clutch??? :? more info would be nice.. :)

i think the only options for a manual gearbox would be tremic or t56..

otherwise auto might be better..
im even considering th400 or powerglide..?

I have a pbr rpm clutch ready to go in. Hopefully it won't snap cables tho.
A heavier clutch will take up quicker.
Very little riding. More of a on gas off clutch more gas.
