Err, so you hit a gutter?

when the road is 20m wide and i was right in the centre of it, the chances of that are pretty slim. lol

Pothole even ??? it did go bang so something has hit hard some where or under alot of stress and given way.

hmm the only thing i can think of is cats eyes on the road. its smooth as otherwise. i should have added that the bang happened when i came out of the slide (wheels dried) and it gripped like a mofo, thats when the bang happened. im sure it aint the diff either.

You'll probably find that you've done something to your pump due to wear and tear over the years and km's and then the sudden high rev nature of hanging it out sideways........

How many k's on the car?

If not the pump, then again, due to the high rev (high pressure nature) of the driving it might've damaged a valve in the speed sensitive rack. Rebuilt rack is not cheap for those I think!!!
