yeah you can just cut it through around the centre then cut the amount you want off it then reweld it back on. I havnt seen pre shortaned shifter for these. But if you want a short throw shifter then look at mick webb svo's lightning shift, reduces shift travel by around %30 id say.
Just make sure you cut and reweld it straight or the angle that it was on

don't weld,
It easier to cut it. Drill a pilot hole. Drill the correct size hole about 30mm down, and then tap a thread... use a long bolt and cut it or get a stud to suit!

you cant weld them (im talking abouit the ea-ed ones) apparently because the aluminium used wont be strong enough if you weld it and it will snap. i asked numerous places. you cant put it in a lathe or machine it as the base bends out too far and wont fit in the machine. i got my mates dad (a metal worker of some sort :S) to make me a new one from steel which was shorter and slightly bend further towards the driver. it was great! didnt know a company made them though... oh well...

i'll be doing mine soon, im just gonna cut it down to where i want it and tap a thread.
to make it sit closer to the driver, i would just think you'd be able to heat it up with an oxy and bend it slightly.
