Hi guys,
following on from my query about putting this 302 in my XB - it looks like the auto to manual conversion is not going to be as easy as I thought so for the moment at least I'll go with the auto thats already on the 302 sooo, next question - the car the motor came out of was a fairlane, so tailshaft is too long - first qu is will a tailshaft from a single rail manual just fit onto the output fron a C4? i.e. do the slip yokes have the same spline/diameter?? Assuming they don't, how hard is it to just remove the yoke from my original `short' manual tailshaft and fit the auto one from the fairlane tailshaft? Or would I be better advised to just get another tailshaft out of an auto falcon? If yes, is a six cyl c4 auto the same slip yoke as a v8 c4? The v8 c4 is a 1976/77, wondering if I could even use tailshaft out of say an XD - XF since there are a million of them at my local u -pullit wreckers...

Yes mate, the 28 spline slip yokes are all interchangeable, although some are longer than others. As for shaft length, It's a case of try and see. If your current shaft is no good, take the longer fairlane shaft, make sure the uni to the diff is the same, and just get it shortened. Should only cost about $100.00 for a shorten and balance. Either that, or take a tape measure to the wreckers and try your luck. :D
