I'm toying with the idea of taking out the spare, and making a cover to go over the cavity for the sub enclosure to sit on.
The only thing is, that I feel the spare acts as a bit of ballast at the rear, and may make it too light at the rear and increase that twitchy rear end effect. If it is ballast that is one heavy weight in the back. The other question is then, those that did remove the spare, did you do it before you had the car lowered, or after? |

I carry a spare but not a jack, a standard jack wont lift my front wheels off the ground, need a propper trolley jack to get em up high enough

Not 100% sure on this, but it is illegal to NOT have a servicable (useable, safe, inflated etc.) spare onboard.
Maybe get a space-saver spare.

Before I relised there was a difference in COmmo and Falc wheels, I had a Commo wheel as a spare as it had a half decent tyre on it, now I've got a proper steelie there, but got no nuts for it if I need to use it.
Only ever had to use it once after damaging a wheel when some fishys went wrong - it'd be good to get rid of, as with the LPG it's on one of those stands. |

i have no spare and have a sub in a fiberglass box that fits in the spare wheel well
howwever im pulling it out and gfoing back to a box setup so i have a useable boot

Nick, you dont really have any issues with it not sitting low enough without the spare though

Maybe get a space-saver spare. I don't think so, spares are not required for a roadworthy in Victoria. However if you have a spare it must be roadworthy when you use it. The onus is on the driver to ensure all road wheels are legal. The spare however can be flat, bald, missing etc.

i recon if i took mine out, id get about 10K's and get a flat, if i leave it in there i probly will NEVER get a flat.
That said, i dont think my mums car has ever had a useable spare, (its usually the flat tyre she took off last time she had a flat)

The day we took one out of a SWB landcruiser to fit 4 people in was the day we got one, in the middle of nowhere. Had to drive on the flat to a farm and by the time we got there the tyre was rooted. Borrowed an old split rim off him that looked in worse condition than ours but it got us home!

Calling people idiots is a little lame 
There are a number of manufacturers selling cars in australia with no spare at all. As standard you get a can of tyre sealer/inflator but some allow you to buy a spare as an extra cost option, others can't as there may be no space for even a space saver tyre. In reality, tyre technology has advanced so much that flats that can't be temporarily repaired using these sealer/inflator pressure cans are very few indeed and in almost all instances that is enough to get people top a workshop. Anyway there are many who wouldn't be able to change a tyre even if there was a trolly jack in the boot (thinking of a women in high heels and skimpy red dress). In those cases i'd come to the rescue with a can of 'zoosht' anytime
