Ok just had the T5 installed recently and sometimes gears seem to grind unless the clutch is pressed hard to the floor, so im guessing the clutch needs to be adjusted. Now i know your supposed to turn the nut at the firewall but after a quick talk to Mal Wood, he reckons alot of people are over adjusting their clutches causing too much pressure on the firewall and other probs.

I just want to know is there a way to adjust the clutch so the release point is off the floor a bit, but at the same time is their a way to make sure its not too far past the release point putting tension on the fork, firewall, pin etc.

your clutch may be worn out? The only way I have adjusted the clutch cable is by foot judgement and where you want the pedal to sit. I have adjusted mine so that when I push the pedal it does reach close to the floor for the gears to go in...but then again mine is worn. If your clutch is new then the pedal should sit about 40mm from the floor or something.

That's all i did and i can smell weed ....yes that was random.

Yep new clutch and bearings put through the box.

Reverse seems to always grind a bit but thats seems to be common with most T5's.

Its just that ive heard so many stories about the firewall cracking that i wanna adjust it properly. Will go out and measure how far the pedal is sitting, also not too sure how much thread is left on the cable at the firewall cause the cable is a bit longer than normal.

if the cable is a bit longer....then i think that is your problem. Firewall can only be resolved by reinforcing the firewalll...that's what i was told.

It could also be the synchros in your gearbox that cause the crunching...they may be on their way out.

If there is only 1 nut on the cable, they have a tendancy of adjusting themselves backwards. Must pay attention and keep on resetting it.

Or a simple thing such as a floor mat sliding under the pedal can make all the difference. If it was new cable its probably stretched a little.

Best bet is to get a second nut for the cable. Adjust the clutch to where you want it and lock the nuts together.

I had a new clutch put in mine & had the same problem. I thought the old cable was stretched so i got a new one but still was the same. FOund out my pedal has been bending!

Thanks for the info guys, the cable thread already has two nuts on it so i adjusted them exactly 3mm closer to the wall and its made a HUGE difference.

I cant believe how 3mm of travel was making the 1st to 2nd gear change 'clunk' all the time, now drives perfect. 8-)
