As the title says, how would i bleed non abs brakes on a el?

Also i installed new brakes and second hand rotors because it was shuttering under heavey braking. While chaning the brake pads, i notice that the right outter brake pad was gone while the inner brake pad still had 1/3 still left.
What would of caused this?

No idea on pad wear, I think thats just a symptom of a sliding caliper design.

But bleeding brakes...

1. Get a helper that can push brakes.
2. Start from wheel furthest from master cylinder, being rear left.
3. Check fluid level in master cylinder resorvoir.
4. Put a bit of brake fluid in a container.
5. Attach a hose to the brake nipple, put other end of hose in container with brake fluid, make sure its submerged.
6. Get helper to push brakes down. As they do, crack the bleed nipple on the caliper. Person in car will feel pedal go down, make sure they don't go all the way to the floor, or lift off.
7. Close nipple when helper reaches the end of where you want the brakes, repeat process till no more bubbles/clean fluid flows, then move to next wheel, rear right, then onto front left, then finally front right.

Top up your master cylinder reservoir throughout the process, if you empty it you f**k up bad.

Sometimes nipples may be blocked with s**t, especially if dustcaps are missing, you will need to get a pin or something to unblock.
Sometimes they are really f**k. Get a new nipple, swap over, bleed brakes.

Some fluids don't mix, bit hard if you don't know whats in it though.
I think they are a DOT4? Which, completely off the top of my head, mixes okay with some higher rating, maybe 5.1.
Higher DOT rated fluid is more hydroscopic as well (will absorb more water, hence going to s**t sooner), so don't think ultra awesome DOT11ty billion is the best for you.

I've never seen it done before so i have now clue. Always been the person who applys the brakes.

Undo with a spanner, preferably ring.
Can't remember size off the top of my head.
Small, maybe 8mm?

Depends how much you are bleeding out
One bottle will be plenty if you are just bleeding air out.

should make this a sticky. Can't find anything on FM about brake hydraulics like this and I'm s ure that there will be a lot of people out there who require this info.

Jared...how far can the pedal go before you stuff it up. Heard if you push the pedal all the way down you can brake some seal or something...

I have never bled the brake fluid before and also clueless...don't want to brake my master anytime soon.

Look guys im not being smart but if you dont already know this info then its probably alot safer for you to pay someone to do the brakes and keep everyone safe.
Its not like retensioning a belt,if you dont bleed the brakes correctly you can die,or someone else could.

nothing wrong with trying. If the brakes don't work as it should after a short test drive down your drive way. Then I suggest you get it checked by a professional. I'm sure it's not hard but you can never learn unless you try. I say give it a crack but don't go for a test drive around the block straight away. Maybe in a straight line down the road and then back up again.

Brakes are over-rated anyway - poles and s**t work fairly well
