If its staying a street car, you wont be putting a cage in it, so you aren't planning to run 9's. It will be about the same weight with full interior vs stripped with cage.
So an Astro A5 gear set would more than likely meet the needs of you car. I'd say in an E-series, the astro a*** would be good for a mid to high 11. Just need a good driver to select the gears. Those mustangs in the states are lifting the wheels launching at 4500+ RPM. |

The Astro seems to be in another league against the G-force.
It certainly sounds like it is a great gear set. I will be going down this path when my T5 explodes. Unless I stumble on the perfect deal for a T56 setup. |

Search Rat's falcon on youtube and you will see how he punishes his car and the A5 Astro seems to take it pretty well..
T56 is the best conversion these days with them becoming cheaper and more popular.. But if your into boring straight line racing, stick with the auto! |

Markr1967 on here has a boosted dohc in his EL XR6, with a standard t5, and is running 300rwkw through it.. He says it's fine as long as you're not slamming into gears and clutch dumping at the limiter.

I have heard failures in drag racing, circuit racing and street use.
They have all been 3rd gear failures. There are a lot more stories like this if you google a little. As far as I know, the only stockist in Australia is Streetbuilt racing in Perth. You could buy the stuff yourself form the US, but you would want to be certain you're getting the right bits. |

I spoke to A5 Astro on the phone about there stuff. They just directed me to Streetbuilt in Perth. So I messaged on his thread on AFF. And for what it is, it's to damn expensive. When for drag racing, the built auto will be quicker. So it suited my application, yes manuals are fun, but with hoon laws the way they are, doing stupid s**t on the street just isn't worth it.

OK I'll have a nibble here. How does owning a manual automatically mean you will be doing stupid s**t on the street?
How is it too expensive for what it is? What exactly do you think it is? Yes manuals are fun, and when you get the opportunity in the right location (track) you can use it to it's full potential. An auto may be faster down the 1/4 but you're not doing that every day are you? So what exactly is your point? |

I'm trying to finish supercharging my engine so when my T5 falls apart, I'm looking at other options (if the missus lets me
 ). When it comes to changing lanes in moving Melbourne traffic, I found the BTR too slow to kick down a gear. With a manual, I can select the gear I want before I manoeuvre.If you compare paying $3k to 4k for a strengthened rebuilt BTR and a similar price for the Astro T5, then the Astro box appears to be a good deal.

Ok looked into it definately not worth going the t56 I can't justify spending that much for a stronger box with one more gear. There's a couple of tko gearboxes for sale ATM would I only have to get a custome tail shaft to replace the T5z from my au
