What options do I have with my au v8 to make the 5spd strong it's already got about 400 horses and I want to start dragging it with slicks so need a 5 speed that will handle dumping traction with more power to come

by selling it and getting a T56. T5 cases are made out of seashells, the internals, out of alphabet spaghetti.
Get another box. You may want to try the A5 a*** from Streetbuilt, but there is only so much power it will take before the box distorts and implodes.

Yep the only real option to have big HP and keep the T5 is to go the Astro T5.
Still not failsafe but.

This will create huge contention of T5 vs T56 vs TKO gearboxes. I think AU V8's have a T5Z (correct me?) which is the strongest T5 from Aus.
However, seeing as you asked specifically for T5, I would say your essential requirement would be a Geforce Transmission case. It stops the flex within the gearbox, which is what kills T5's. On a budget (I am considering this atm) I would go rebuilt T5Z components into a Geforce case, should handle decent power. Your next option is to get the Gefore case, plus a set of Geforce, or Astro A5 gears, which is about as bulletproof as T5's get. http://www.gforcetransmissions.com/tran_gt-5.asp Or straight cut gear set from PPG http://www.ppgearbox.com.au/page.asp?productid=30 None of which are cheap options. IMO, for E-series, these are more realistic options because the length of a T56 means a lot of Mal Wood specific parts to retrofit. However for an AU, the length is correct, and would be much easier to just fit a T56. I had this debate with a chap on boosted, and he said he managed to convert from T5 to T56 for around $2k. Seems like that would be your best bet! Linky http://www.boostedfalcon.net/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=20619 |

That was after selling his T5 etc, I think he said if he had of started from scratch it would have been a touch over 3k. Still, you have a T5 you can sell. Whereas if you had an auto, you have an anchor, lucky if you can give them away free to good home. 6 cylinder anyway.
Your situation may be complexified by the fact that you have a V8. |

with my turbo SVO it was a toss up between an A5 Astro or a built BTR. The built BTR won as it was going to be cheaper, stronger and will be quicker down the 1/4 than a A5 Astro box.
But if you wanna go that way, a guy on AFF is an Australian supplier for A5 Astro internal components, as A5 Astro is based in America.

Astro a*** are to suit E Series T5. Either T56 or built C4 is your only option.

I thought it was only the bellhousing that was longer. I first found out about them from reading up on Mustang forums in the US, and they are for V8's. I'm no expert on V8's, far from it, but I thought the only difference between a V8 and I6 T5 was the length of the input shaft? Myabe its different for the AU T5Z's. http://www.themustangshop.ca/product/303514/301016 These ones are for a 5L Mustang. T56 came out on heaps of cars stock, pretty much available through BA-FG, and on commodores from VX onwards? Plus a few other (much less common) cars. If you want one NOW, they are expensive. But if you are willing to wait, keep an eye out for a car being wrecked or one on Ebay thats close to you, you will eventually get a bargain. |

To fit a T56 to a Falcon V8, your looking at $8k.

I dont know. I know I'll be going to a C4 when it comes time to upgrade my gearbox.
