I'm looking at purchasing a diff off ebay, the seller say's it's out of a longreach and is lsd, and it has 3.27 gears. Now i own a xg gli and it also has 3.27 gears and its a single spinner so just a bit curious, that im not gunna get stiched thinking im buying a lsd and end up with what i already have. Can u tell from part number's or did longreach come with lsd.

There is a sticker on the axle tube (drivers side i think) and the tag on the cover plate will also say.

Or, if its close to you, check it by turning one axle of it while holding the other before you buy it.

thank's guy's i jumped under my ute and had a look at the dog tag and all i could read on it was the part number, ratio and what I think was the serial number and i found a sticker on the back cover of the diff housing with the letters ITC if that is meant to mean something.

Chock the front wheels. Lift the rear end up both wheels off the ground and turn the wheels. if one side spins and the other side goes the other way, then single spinner, if both go forward then lsd.

there will either a yellow label on the drivers side axle tube stating the ratio and if its lsd..
or there will be a tag on the filler bolt stating lsd oil required(or something like that)

Like your style oompa loompa, but the very first burnt out i did in the ute it only spun one wheel but now it will lite both up so i would say time to upgrade before it goes pop. and thanks all for the info.

Tag saying "HIGH PERFORMANCE - Use LSD oil" on the filler bolt. Sticker on drivers side axle.

Other than that, try starting a burnout slightly turning left... If it's an old LSD like mine it will single spin right wheel until you work it out... (And will always single spin if you turn right when kicking it by the way)...

Me and Butler put five foot bars through the wheel studs and stood on them in opposite directions and couldn't get the LSD slipping when it was off the car. In other words --- I was on the ground (being slightly heavier) and he was jumping up and down on and not breaking the LSD.

Simplist way is to rotate one axle and if the other one turns the same direction its LSD if it turns in the opposite its a single spinner.

what does it mean if i spin one wheel and the other does not spin either direction? lol and same the other side.. F%^&*D LSD? or ..... because the tag just a normal tag, doesnt mention LSD. Do people upgrade the diffs without changing the tags?
Also i have a bent axle and just wondering whether its a better option to find a whole diff assembly and get it fitted or getting my current fixed. wan a lsd put in if its not one in there. i have 3.27.1 ratio, would it be worth going for 3.45.1 LSD? definily want an LSD tho just not sure about changing gears as well. What price range would i be looking at for that kind of work? Am new to all this still so just wan an estimate so i dont get ripped off

Yellow Label does not mean the Diff is an LSD.
A Tag saying 'Hi performance' does not mean LSD.

Both or one of the above can also mean the Diff centre has a 4 pinion centre (4 spider gears).
making it 'stronger'

Saying that can be confusing because all EF/EL apparently have 4 pinions centres.

another thing to note is as a general rule, 28 spline axles usually have 4 pinions.
