Spring compressors are dangerous IMO, i've heard too many bad stories. I've only ever used mine for putting a super low spring onto a peddars short strut. The best and safest way to get the top nut off IMHO is to lay the assembly on the ground with a blanket over the top get the nut close to the end of the thread then when it finnely pops off it will just go into the blanket. Pretty easy really.
Better than copping a spring compressor to the face. |

Hey I removed front spring shocks with out compressors, by undoing bolts top and jacking and lowering lower control arms, Q1: Can I just replace shocks strut, in assembly then jack lower control arm to compress spring prior too tightening nut ? seems logical in my theory LOL cheers.
