i just finished a clutch change on the ole ea.
the clutch feels fantastic the car drives good except there is an extremely loud sgueeling/howling noise coming from underneath only when the car is rolling..(I MEAN LOUD) you can hear it from 50m away..
its got me stumped at the moment.. :?

ive replaced the clutch/pressure plate, front input shaft seal.rear extension housing seal and put it back together.
it didnt start making noise untill about 2 km down the road.
there are no whines or clunks or leaks from the box ect.

im not goin to jack it back up untill tomorrow morning.

any ideas???

did you face the clutch face out the right way?? maybe it is hitting the bolts? did you get the flywheel machined or anything? do clutches need to bed in?

yea the clutch is the right way around..

the strange thing is it only does it when the car is rolling.
idling in neutral while rolling it still makes the noise it doesnt matter if the clutch is in or out the noise is still there..

if im stoped at lights with foot on clutch there is no noise.

im thinking its tail shaft related? but what?
when the clutch failed it would not disengage so i had to drive home without using the clutch.
but there was no noise untill i put it back together...

ive ruled out the brakes rubbing as is rolls along with ease..
:? :?

Throw out bearing? Did you replace it? It's about the only thing I can think of at the moment.

its probably unrelated to the clutch its usualy is with that type of stuff

a wornish throw out bearing will make noise when the clutch is depressed and rooted one will make noise all the time

if it makes noise while rolling look at everything that is rotating

are you sure its not anything like a brake pad wear indicator as they tend to do that just as they start to touch the rotor when under no load
