Recently I have been getting a slight i suppose you would call it a humming sound from the rear end of my LTD. It is louder and more noticeable when turn and also there is a small vibrations that accompanies it. It has been suggested to me that is could be shagged bearings or sticking calipers? the noise is also there when driving in a straight line but it is more of a rubbing sound when straight??? any ideas guys?

Hi.
This sort of problem could have a thousand possible answers, of which none could be correct, simply because, we can't inspect it. Do the proper thing and take it to a diff or brake specialist and have them look at it. You will save yourself a lot of heartache working out which diagnosis fits the best. BenJ

BenJ is right but if you feel the urge check diff oil level before spend needless amounts of cash on a maybe theory.

the old man is a mechanic by trade so that isn't a problem but he is away at the monent so just thought I would check on here and see if this is a common sound and or problem that can occur in e-series, cheers anyway guys.

Humming is not very discriptive either. When I read the title my first thought was fuel pump on the way out - i.e. making an electrical humming noise.
But I'm guessing it's some sort of mechanical noise due to your description? |
