Hey all, this afternoon o the way home from work I struck a small problem. In a desperate attempt to stop to make the corner i was aiming at, I had about 20m to stop from doing 85ish kms/hr, then it happened, ABD kicked in and before knew it BANG there is the gutter, and HELLO oncomming traffic.... By this time I was hoping to hell that the traffic was going to stop in time and they did, yayyyy.
I then parked the car and had a look at the front left and bugger me, there is no lip left on my wheel (good old snowflakes). The tyre was still up and the bead was still in tact and no bubble on the side wall. But rather then chance it I changed to the spare anyway (great fun driving on at 10psi). All the visual suspension looks ok and all going wll i have done no other damage. I am guessing the wheel alignment is up to s**t now. 1 question can i remove ABS from my ED as I like to feel where my brakes are. When i hip the brakes my pedal went to the floor and had nothing, but it stopped. I will post a pic soon for your imense laughter. Just thought I would share. |

sound like the old case of driving above and beyond ones ablity.
lol anyway your wheel alignment will definately have had to move with such a hit and the only way to really tell of if the tyre is ok is to remove it from the rimand check both inside and out, if you're keen on putting it back on maybe put it on the rear or if the tread is getting low just flick it altogether and shout youself a couple of new ones for the front. |

The tyres are all new, wll done about 2000kms.
I might pull the ABS fuse and stick with good old normal brakes, I prefer to feel what happening, rather then hopeing for the best. |

Dont just pull the fuse, its more or less illegal to disable any inbuilt safety device on your car, pull the fuse, short it across a (big) battery so it blows then put it back in.

by the looks at those picts I think your tyre will be ok
and those rims should be easy enough to pick up 2nd hand from a tyre shop or the wreakers |

Similar to my mishap.. Parramatta road I was on the left lane which was turning left and had a dip. Person on my right was moving towards me and bang, bye bye two rims and one tyre (which I was driving on for a fair few kms).. Other driver slowed then sped up, bastard.

i would never buy a car without ABS saved my front end a few times from kangaroos. you should still be able to brake normaly with ABS its only there to stop your wheels locking up.. find a deserted patch of road and learn to brake without your abs kicking in. get the feel of your brakes and your car!
first thing i do when i drive a unfimiliar car is try the brakes and know how they feel!

you cant threshhold brake with ABS, once you get close it kicks in, ive tried with my mums EF wagon and ABS just gets in your way. Having said that a lot of people dont know how to threshold brake and just mash the brake pedal, so ABS is good for them.

i guess the point is, you shouldnt really be threshold breaking, really no need for it.
