Converting EB 5.0l V8 from BTR 4 spd auto to C4 3 speed auto.
I was thinking about using an EA 2.77 diff so fuel economy doesn't suffer, is it strong enough? has anyone tried it?

depends, are you going to do burnouts or flog it? if no then yeh the EA diff should be p to the task. If yes your results may not be so good. Why are you going to a C4?

Strength reliability (and cost, race-prepped C4 = a grand stock BTR = 2 grand) and the fact that a C4 is the same lenght & spline as BTR, so conversion is simple & cheap.
sick of breaking BTRs and paying $1800- $2k each time.

If you keep killing BTR boxes (im assuming its not through neglect) the EA axles may not go so well, there are a few people around who can rebuild a BTR box much stronger than original (XR6T bands etc)

if EA ones no good, probably should go stronger anyway, but don't want to bash floor in for a nine inch, any idea what's a strong, easy fit?

i think you may be able to fit the EA diff gears into an EB+ housing (using its centre) that way you get high gearing, and the stronger axles.

Want to buy a used BTR for the 5.0L as removed from my EB when i did a T5 conversion?? (& I'm just up the road in Faulconbridge).
Not sure what you are doing to break the BTR's, but stepping down to a 25 spline axle (as found in EA's & 6cyl EB1's) from the stock 28 is not a good idea. Perhaps a 3.08:1 28 spline 4 pin centre from a 1990's Commodore put in your housing will achieve the desired effect behind the C4.

Well as I see there is at least 3-4 EA-ED's in the Penrith Blue Mountains area so we should get a Box car meet @ Penrith or Springwood Rd.

Sounds like a good Idea, always good to catch up with local falcon boys.

Thanks anyway on the btr offer, but I'm also getting the C4 in preparation for the long term goal of a 500-600hp efi boss motor, which a btr will definetly not cope with!

In that case even the 28 spline borg warner will only survive for so long.
Long term you will need a 9" conversion, or billet axles for the 28 at the very least. & a mini meet after hours sounds good.
