okay for a while now I have been experiencing doughyness (is this a good way to put it?) under 2000rpm which occurs maybe 50% of the time off the line. It happens in other gears but isn't noticable unless i'm trying to accelerate from a cruising speed etc. Its very much like the car is hesitant to accelerate at all at these revs and wants to kick back a gear.
Now the other day, I put my car in drive and was sitting there for about 5 seconds fiddling with the cd player so it should of engaged, but when i accelerated it revved to around 1800 and the car started moving (but barely at walking pace) for around 2 second before suddenly it engaged as to the speed it would normally. I had only just started the car so it definately wasn't slipping due to heat, is there any way I can check the fluid levels? (EL gli) cheers

Get a transmission service, My BTR had the exact same problems as you're describing and after a service the shifts hardened up and the box didn't seem to be slipping or not engaging whilst launching.

Check the transmission fluid level first (level surface, tranny warm, engine idling, in 'park'). If it's low then check for leaks. Refill to at least keep you going if need be.

how can i check the tranny fluid level? was under the impression EL's didn't have the dipstick?
also transmission was only serviced 30-40000km ago although i'm not sure what was done to it at this time. I occasionally drive hard, but it definately doesn't get flogged and doesn't do linelock skids or anything stupid.

Sounds very much like it is low on fluid.

okay i had a lookie under there this morning and its completely dry around the auto (i.e can't see where it would be leaking if it is).
Is there any way I can check a non-disptick auto for fluid levels?

16mm bolt on the drivers side of the box. should be at the level of the of hole. if not dip your pinky in there and you should feel it.

That would technically be the best time to do it. When the engine is warm and running. Alot of fluid is pumped into the T/C when the thing is running, that if the engine was cold, all the fluid would have drained back into the sump giving you a false reading. |

mmm okay i might just take it to the mechanics and get them to do it as i only have 2 ramps so cant get it high enough evenly to get under there safely while its running/hot

I filled mine up with the engine off, is it supposed to be on.
It was running bad and slipped so I bought a new filter for it and a transmission cooler. It runs well now, but is it underfilled? thanks, |
