Hi, as the title stats, i have just converted my falcon to manual and i have a very hard clutch pedal, i can still drive it thu, and the cluctch pedal sits higher than the other pedals. is there something i have done wrong. i'm gonna have a big calf muscle if i dont fix it. oh, and i have just bought An xtreme HD clutch kit but i havent installed it. i belive the clutch is only a standard item in there.

Be sure to beef up the pedal box. When having a hard clutch pedal you'll almost always break your pedal box.
I did on my EF Falcon. |

A heavy clutch can be a symptom of a tight and failing clutch cable. These just break leaving you stuck on the side of the road. I'd replace the cable with a newie and see how that feels.

You might need a new clutch cable. Just be careful though so you dont rip your firewall

bent pedal box, cracked firewall, stuffed cable, bent fork, h/d clutch.
all can cause this.

As the others have recommended I'd replace the cable first. Its amazing how heavy a stuffed cable can make the clutch feel.

Yep...I can vouch for the cable...mine was stiff as buggery until I changed the cable...felt so much easier after that...although in saying that, I've just come back from being in Scotland for 5 weeks and my clutch feels HEAVY AS BUGGERY compared to the cars I drove over there...

hahahah ive seen all the possible problems u can have withe a manual box and ive only had mine for 6 months. ok yeah first pedal box broke, clutch pedal was eating away at the pedal box as the pedal was going sideways lol, so box had to be welded and strengthened up then one night my pedal dropped but i still had a clutch then took it to a mechanic and played with the calbe and temp fixed it, then when i got home it was a bit loose again so i tighted the cable and snap. Replaced cable and its all and touch wood its all good for now.
moral to the story all my problems were cause buy the cable not being replaced when i got the conversion done cause ppl just dont take care but yeah replace ur cable!!! |

i persisted with a heacy clutch until it broke through the fire wall!
i fixed that up put a new cable and it was all good, until about a week ago my clutch pedal squeeks every time i press it in, is this my peddal box going? what else would cause it to be squeeky?

there should be a helper spring that holds the clutch pedal down aswell.. i dont have that on my car, so the clutch is a little heavier than it should be.
if thats missing, then that could also be it..

There is also a flat plate with a slotted hole in it that should be bolted in above the clutch pedal arm. This holds the pedal down level with the brake pedal. This can be a safety issue cos your foot can actually get caught under the clutch pedal! (experience! ) One more thing to check: was the pressure plate put in the right way around? (again experience! )

i didn't realise u could get the pressure plate round the wrong way cos the fly wheel has dowls. i'm a diesel mechanic so i dont reakon i srewed up but then again anything is possible. i'll have a look at the pedal stop cos i used the pedal pin kit, so my auto box hasnt got that.
